St Pete offers a wide range of scenic and enjoyable bike trails for cyclists of all levels. And at St Pete Biking Tours and Rentals, we are a big fan! Here are some of the best bike trails to explore during your stay in St Pete.
• The Pinellas Bike Trail – This 38-mile paved rails-to-trail bike path is one of St Pete’s crown jewels when to bicycling. Starting in the heart of St Pete’s waterfront arts district, the Pinellas Trail travels west for about 6 miles before turning north. The majority of the trail is through scenic neighborhoods and offers a peaceful ride throughout Pinellas peninsula. The trail currently ends at Tarpon Springs. It’s great for novice and experienced cyclists alike.
• The Gulfport Bike Trail – Roughly around the 5-mile marker on the Pinellas Bike Trail, one can head south to Gulfport on the Gulfport Bike Trail. Though only the first 300 yards is a true paved bike trail, the remaining 1.25 miles travels through quaint and quiet neighborhoods, making for a great ride. Once in Gulfport, you’ll appreciate why you made the trip. Be sure to check out O’Maddy’s restaurant, Gulfport Brewery, and the Winehouse. Tell them St Pete Biking Tours sent you!
• North Bay Bike Trail – Right where the Pinellas Bike Trail starts is also another bike trail that travels along Tampa Bay in St Pete. It begins at Demens Landing and courses up about 7 miles headed north. Be sure to turn east onto the St Pete Pier 3 blocks up from the start of the trail. Also, if heading farther north past the pier, you can turn east/right onto Coffee Pot Bridge into Snell Isle. This is a great neighborhood for a casual bicycle ride with many million+ dollar homes.
• The Skyway Bike Trail – This winding bicycle trail travels along sidewalks and bike paths heading south toward the Skyway Bridge. Best for day travel, this bike trail begins around mile marker 4 on the Pinellas Bike Trail. Once arriving at 54th avenue south on the Skyway Trail, you can then connect to the Bayway Bike Trail. It takes you due west and ends at the infamous Don Cesar, also known as the Pink Lady. In addition, you can also head south from the Bayway Trail and bicycle into Fort De Soto State Park. This popular beach park features seven miles of bike trails that wind through a variety of habitats, including beaches, mangrove forests, and wetlands. It's a great place for a leisurely ride or a family outing.
• Weedon Island Preserve – At the north end of the North Bay Trail is another great bicycle trail to explore. Weedon Island Nature Preserve offers a 4.5-mile loop trail that winds through mangrove forests, tidal flats, and upland ecosystems. It's a great spot for birdwatching and wildlife viewing, and it's suitable for all skill levels.
